South Australia
South Australia is the fourth largest state within Australia and the only one to share borders with all each other states (with the obvious exception of the island state of Tasmania).
With a population of 1.5 million people, the state comprises less than 10 per cent of the Australian population and ranks fifth in population among the other states and territories. The majority of its people reside in the state capital, Adelaide, with most of the remainder settled in fertile areas along the south-eastern coast and River Murray.

Outback South Australia
The Flinders Ranges (250km north of Adelaide) are simply spectacular for their sheer, rugged beauty, amazing colours, wildflowers, wildlife, historic ruins and Aboriginal rock paintings. Birdlife includes the magnificent wedge-tailed eagle and, on the ground, the elusive yellow-footed rock wallaby.

South Australia's Wine Region - Barossa, Clare Valley & McLaren Vale
Straddling the centre of the Australian continent, South Australia is the wine industry’s powerhouse State, producing most of the nation’s wine and boasting some of the oldest individual vines in the world. The venerable old vines found in South Australia’s Barossa Valley and Adelaide Hills, through their isolation, survived the great phylloxera plagues that wiped out the vines of North America and Europe, and somewhat later, devastated Australia’s eastern vineyards. Quarantine restrictions were introduced, saving South Australia’s vines from phylloxera, and ensuring the State retained its grape growing status.
