Remote Fishing Adventures
The Northern Territory offers a network of rivers and floodplains and rainforests that are home to many bird, animal and reptile species including the awesome estuarine (saltwater) crocodile, some measuring up to 18 ft. The Coburg Peninsula & Arnhemland have been heralded as one of the best fishing locations in Australia, this is an idyllic setting where fish are abundant and people are sparse. Jutting from the Northern Territory's north coast, this fishing mecca includes Garig Gunak Barlu National Park, encompassing the Peninsula, and the surrounding waters in Cobourg Marine Park.
This pristine and beautiful tropical coastal wilderness environment of Garig Gunak Barlu National Park has been praised by such world famous sportsmen as Greg Norman and Rex Hunt as one of the best sports fishing destinations in Australia and the world. The mangrove lined estuaries are where the famed Barramundi and Mangrove Jacks provide a challenge to the angler.
Blue water sport fishing is excellent providing a large range of target species including Giant Trevally, Queenfish, Spanish Mackerel and sharks (Black Tips, Whalers and Tiger sharks). The coastline of the Arafura Sea is made up of many small bays and sandy beaches broken with rocky outcrops and the reefs are close to the shore and act as fish magnets. And whilst fishing in open waters fisherman encounter turtles, dugongs and whales.
Tasmania provides some of the best freshwater fishing for wild brown trout in the world. It’s myriad clear highland lakes, rivers and streams are home to trout that test and satisfy anglers of all levels of experience. Brown trout were first released in Tasmania in 1864. These wild fish have naturally reproduced in significant numbers ever since. In addition to wild brown trout, waters around Tarraleah are home to magnificent rainbow trout, brook trout and hard-fighting Atlantic salmon.
